Fake Dooney & Bourke R42 Shopping Tote Bag

Greetings from Wyoming!

I have a “vintage” Dooney & Bourke All Weather Leather Handbag/Tote. It was given to me and I was told it was real, and that it was made in the 1980’s. I listed it on Ebay and sold it, but when the buyer received it, she said it was fake. So I had her send it back and I refunded her money.

Curious, I did some more researching on the authenticity of Dooney & Bourke bags…and that has me wondering if I really do have a real one??? Mine does not have a tag inside, but I read that some bags made between 1980-1983 didn’t have them. The feet, stitching, metal fob, and D&B logo match the check lists I’ve read about. I have several picture I would be glad to send you that I used in my auction, but I don’t want to re-list it without knowing what I have here. If it’s fake, I need to know so that I can state this in my auction. It’s a fairly large black pebble and tan trim bag. Could you possibly help me by taking a look at it? I’d really appreciate it and appreciate your help & time!

Thank You, Cindy

Here in the 1992 catalog is the authentic bag. The smaller one on the left is the R42 Shopping Bag which the counterfeiters were trying to copy.

scan0003I carry its big sister the R41 with me every time I go to town – it is my truck bag filled with all the things a girl needs when doing a town day. Since the catalog page is hard to see, here is the big sister which has all the same features but just larger. Click on the photo and it will take you to the bag with many detailed photos.
